SAMe is essential for the production of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from the damaging effects of free radicals. SAMe improves the binding of neurotransmitters to their receptor sites in the brain. SAMe has been used in Europe for the treatment of cirrhosis and for the damage caused by alcohol consumption. SAMe Gold may also be useful for depression.
General Information: SAMe (S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine), is formed by an enzymatic reaction of methionine, a sulfur-containing amino acid, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the body's main energy molecule. SAMe occurs naturally in the human body and is involved in over forty biochemical reactions in the body. Unfortunately, SAMe levels decline with age. Supplementing with additional SAMe may protect the body from immune deficiencies.
