Propolis also protects the colony from parasitic microorganisms because of its antiseptic efficacy and larvae immune supporting properties. Additional Information

Etymologically, the Greek word "propolis" means "pro", for or defence and "polis" means a "city", that could be translated as "defence of the hive". Bees use it to seal holes in their hives, smooth out internal walls as well as to cover carcasses of intruders who died inside the hive in order to avoid their decomposition and bees family infestation.
