Kava × Sedatives

Mechanism

Kava potentiates GABA-A receptor activity, additive with benzodiazepines and other CNS depressants.

Effect

Severe CNS depression; excessive sedation; coma risk

Management

Avoid combination. Kava + benzodiazepines has caused semi-comatose states.
