Mechanism
L-tryptophan is a serotonin precursor. SSRIs block serotonin reuptake. Combined use dramatically increases synaptic serotonin.
Effect
Serotonin syndrome (potentially fatal)
Management
Avoid combination. Serotonin syndrome is a medical emergency.
