Mechanism

5-HTP is a serotonin precursor. SSRIs block serotonin reuptake. Combined use dramatically increases synaptic serotonin.

Effect

Serotonin syndrome (agitation, confusion, hyperthermia, seizures, potentially fatal)

Management

Avoid combination. Serotonin syndrome is a medical emergency.
